COSMIC WONDER was initiated in 1997 by Yukinori Maeda. The “Center for COSMIC WONDER” established in Minami Aoyama, Tokyo, functions as a base for their activities and presentations.
COSMIC WONDER has been active as a conceptual project that comprises various modes of expression from of clothing, artwork, and publishing to performance.
Since 2016 COSMIC WONDER has moved their studio to a former traditional house and workshop in Miyama, a remote village in the mountains north of Kyoto designated a national preservation district of historic buildings. In 2016, the exhibition “Omizue: Iwamino-kamito-mizu” (Iwami Art Museum) was presented as a joint project of COSMIC WONDER with Kogei Punks Sha, followed by the “Kami” exhibition (Shiseido Gallery, Ginza) in August 2017, The special exhibition “COSMIC WONDER: Lightness of Light” (Iwami Art Museum) in November 2017.

Maeda has created installations based on his personal experiences and sense of spirituality. The central and consistent theme of Maeda’s projects is “light,” which he appropriates to present mystic spaces where both spirituality (light) and the viewer encounter and resonate with one another.
A solo exhibition of Maeda’s works is to be held at Taka Ishii Gallery in June 2018.
