COLLECTOR EXHIBITION ON THE MEZZANINE: TERRY SCHNEIDER

On view at Frances May

July 10th - August 10th, 2024

Opening Reception | July 10th, 5-7pm

“ I have been collecting stuff for over 50 years. I am not a connoisseur, I don't buy something because of a perceived value, or knowledge about it. I just gather up whatever catches my eye. It may be expensive, it may be free, it just has to get my attention. Simple ordinary stuff, bowls, cups, vases, stools, tables, and chairs, often discarded or overlooked by others resonate with me, and provide some comfort in this complex world. “

-Terry Schneider

TERRY'S STUFF

A long-time Frances May friend and customer, Terry Schneider's work goes beyond mere collection; it is an artistic endeavor spanning over 5 decades, elevating the aesthetic potential of the overlooked and forgotten.

The exhibition invites viewers to explore with a sense of curiosity, finding comfort in the harmonious assembly of ordinary, yet unique objects.

Inspired by a patchwork Nigel Cabourn anorak found at Frances May many years ago, Terry's collection practice has also evolved into a design practice, creating one-of-a-kind garments, through the artful combination of found garments.
